Lifestyle is the sum total of who we are inside and our attitude
toward life. Let us read Daniel today, my spirit cries out. What makes
Daniel different and worthy as an individual to be so well recorded in
heaven and written with such great length in the Bible? What does God
say of Daniel? Why is he considered so special and highly respected and
honored by even the powerful pagan kings? What is the key success factor
word if we have only one sentence or one word to describe him? I shall
try to summarize the book of Daniel to answer these questions.
The physical Daniel: a noble (royal family) young man taken hostage
from Jerusalem in 605 BC to the Babylonian court. He qualified for the
pagan king’s requirement: an Israelite from the royal family and
nobility-young man without any physical defects, handsome, showing
aptitude for every kind of learning, well-informed, quick to understand,
and qualified to serve in the king’s palace. The Babylonian king
considered Daniel as a person with insight, intelligence and outstanding
wisdom, ten times better than his counselors (all the magicians and
enchanters) in his whole kingdom. (Daniel was taken hostage probably in
his teen, and subsequently lived through the captivity period 605-530 BC
in the courts of the Babylonian kings and the Medes and Persian kings
respectively.)
The spiritual Daniel: He knew his God. All his actions were
persistently and consistently based on this reality of a living God in
his personal total life (inside and outside). He described God as “the
Lord my God”. He addressed God as: “Lord, the great and awesome God, who
keeps His covenant of love with those who love Him and keep His
commandments.” He knew God as absolutely holy. Therefore he resolved not
to defile himself with the spiritually ‘unclean’ (including pagan food,
drink, idolatry religious practices and rituals). He knew God as
awesome and the only God for him. Therefore he remained calm and
composed despite threats of his life. He remained faithful and loyal to
his God. He knew God’s spiritual reality. Therefore he could understand
visions and dreams of all kind. He could even ask God to reveal
mysteries (beyond the human realm) to him, about things to come.
For example: He even knew the details of a dream of the Babylonian
King Nebuchadnezzar and correctly interpret them The king heard and fell
on his face and prostrate before Daniel and declared that Daniel’s God
is “the God of gods, the Lord of kings.” The queen mother described
Daniel to her son King Belshazzar that Daniel was a man “in whom is the
Spirit of the Holy God. Light and understanding and excellent wisdom
were found in him.”
The Daniel as a role model of an overcomer: He knew God. He testified
for God. He was not afraid of death because of his testimony and faith
in the living God.
What does God say about Daniel? From the conversations and messages
the angel (Gabriel) held with Daniel, we know that Daniel was a man
greatly beloved of God, and from the first day he set his heart to
understand God’s mystery, God heard his words (prayers), replied,
granted his requests. God even sent His mighty angel in reply. God also
saved and preserved Daniel from harm. Daniel lived to a ripe old age
before the living God.
Daniel’s spiritual, godly and prayerful lifestyle was entirely based
on his lifelong unwavering belief in the living God and attitude toward
God. Indeed, he has the Spirit of the Holy God in him.

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.” (Romans 8:14)
The Time of the End
“And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake,
some to everlasting life, some to shame and everlasting contempt. Those
who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the firmament, and those
who lead many to righteousness like the stars forever and ever.”
(Daniel 12:2-3)

Watchman's Bible Study -who cannot discern the signs of the times
The message today is: hypocrites cannot discern the signs of the times because they operate and focus on the level of the flesh (physical level, and mind and emotion -soul level). They are not mindful of the things of God but the things of men. They are not spiritually discerning. Jesus stated clearly that no one can see and enter the kingdom of God unless he is born again of the Spirit. Why cannot many 'Christians' see or hear God and live by the Spirit? The reason is the same as mentioned. To be born again of the Spirit, one must believe and obey the word of God as led by the Holy Spirit. Mere knowledge in the mind will not make one a born-again Christian. The willingness to know God in the Holy Spirit, through being joined to Jesus, and be of one spirit with Him, and the focus on spiritual matters rather than flesh matters, are prerequisites for being a spirit-led Christian, a true son of God. Only sons of God can discern the signs of the times and know Jesus as He is, the Son of God, the Christ. Only sons of God can overcome the devil.
The watchman's Bible study notes are in bracket.
Matthew 16
New King James Version (NKJV)
The Pharisees and Sadducees Seek a Sign
16 Then the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing Him asked that He would show them a sign from heaven. 2 He answered and said to them, “When it is evening you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red’; 3 and in the morning, ‘It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ Hypocrites![a] You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times. 4 A wicked and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign shall be given to it except the sign of the prophet[b] Jonah.” And He left them and departed.
Watchman's notes: (The hypocrites do not really mean what they say, pray, proclaim or sing. Even when they quote a lot of Bible words in their 'displays' of religiosity, they would not gain or give life if they are not led by the Holy Spirit. To them signs are mere physical things, something that could give them physical sensation and they feel good about. Jesus had performed many miraculous signs but they still asked for more!)
The Leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees
5 Now when His disciples had come to the other side, they had forgotten to take bread. 6 Then Jesus said to them, “Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees.”7 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, “It is because we have taken no bread.”
8 But Jesus, being aware of it, said to them, “O you of little faith, why do you reason among yourselves because you have brought no bread?[c] 9 Do you not yet understand, or remember the five loaves of the five thousand and how many baskets you took up? 10 Nor the seven loaves of the four thousand and how many large baskets you took up? 11 How is it you do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread?—but to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” 12 Then they understood that He did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
Watchman's notes: (Even the disciples were not spiritually discerned. Today many Christians have the same problem because they focus on the flesh realm -physical and soul- and ignore the spiritual truth. Only spiritual truth sets one free from bondage, including that of the flesh -the old nature. Jesus said His words are life and spirit. Reading His word needs spiritual discernment.)
Peter Confesses Jesus as the Christ
13 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”14 So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed[d] in heaven.”
20 Then He commanded His disciples that they should tell no one that He was Jesus the Christ.
Watchman's notes: ( Only God, who is the Father in heaven for Christians, can reveal spiritual truth to His children. Why then cannot many Christians understand spiritual truth? The question everyone needs to ask is: am I a child of God? Do I have a spiritual relationship with God as the Father in heaven? Is Jesus the Christ, the Son of the living God to me personally?)
Jesus Predicts His Death and Resurrection
21 From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.22 Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!”
23 But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.”
Watchman's notes:(the key difference between the children of God and the children of Satan is: the children of God are mindful of the things of God. God is Spirit. Only those born of the Spirit are His children. They are spiritually discerning. Their focus is on God- hear His word, do His will and live His divine nature, as led by the Holy Spirit.
Take Up the Cross and Follow Him
24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. 26 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 27 For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works. 28 “Assuredly, I say to you, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom.”Watchman's notes:(the spiritual man is not afraid to deny his flesh, his old nature, his 'self'. True disciple has no difficulty to follow Jesus as he walks and lives through the Spirit, living the kingdom of God's life even on earth.)

Today's message for watchman - racing the fastest race
The watchman woke and found that he was in a race, The race is against time. He has an appointed time to operate. The race course is already set. He has to complete the assignment in the appointed time according to the plumb line set in heaven. There is no option. The only hindrance to his finishing the race on time is himself. He must die to self and live to the Holy Spirit. He has no other road map but the Holy Spirit. He has no power except the power of the Holy Spirit (the same power that resurrected Jesus from the dead). There was no one else who could help him but Jesus, the beginner and finisher of his faith.
Philippians 3:7-11 New King James Version (NKJV)7 But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. 8 Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; 10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,
11 if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.Philippians 3:7-11 New Living Translation (NLT)
7 I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done. 8 Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ 9 and become one with him. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ.[a] For God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith. 10 I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death,
11 so that one way or another I will experience the resurrection from the dead!Footnotes: a. Philippians 3:9 Or through the faithfulness of Christ.
Philippians 3:7-11 Amplified Bible (AMP)
7 But whatever former things I had that might have been gains to me, I have come to consider as [[a]one combined] loss for Christ’s sake.8 Yes, furthermore, I count everything as loss compared to the possession of the priceless privilege (the overwhelming preciousness, the surpassing worth, and supreme advantage) of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord and of progressively becoming more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him [of perceiving and recognizing and understanding Him more fully and clearly]. For His sake I have lost everything and consider it all to be mere rubbish (refuse, dregs), in order that I may win (gain) Christ (the Anointed One),9 And that I may [actually] be found and known as in Him, not having any [self-achieved] righteousness that can be called my own, based on my obedience to the Law’s demands (ritualistic uprightness and supposed right standing with God thus acquired), but possessing that [genuine righteousness] which comes through faith in Christ (the Anointed One), the [truly] right standing with God, which comes from God by [saving] faith.10 [For my determined purpose is] that I may know Him [that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly], and that I may in that same way come to know the power outflowing from His resurrection [[b]which it exerts over believers], and that I may so share His sufferings as to be continually transformed [in spirit into His likeness even] to His death, [in the hope]11 That if possible I may attain to the [[c]spiritual and moral] resurrection [that lifts me] out from among the dead [even while in the body].

THE TRUE HELPER HAS COME
Eve had failed Adam. Many had failed their spouses. The reason is that
the man (Adam) involved had not fulfilled his spiritual role to fit into
the original design by God. Thus the helper (Eve) could not fit in her
original spiritual design. The answer and solution is in the spiritual
realm. Families have been salvaged and saved from being robbed,
destroyed and even killed by the enemies (agents of the evil one) when
man and woman submit to God and resist the devil. The Holy Spirit (the
true Helper and Comforter) has come to enable and empower those who
believe to overcome the enemy.

for Thou art my tehillah (praise)
Yirmeyah 17
Orthodox Jewish Bible (OJB)
17 The
chattat Yehudah is written with an et barzel (iron pen), and with the
tzipporen shamir (point of a diamond); it is engraved upon the luach
(tablet) of their lev, and upon the karenot (horns) of your mizbechot
(altars);
2 Whilst their banim remember their mizbechot and their asherim by the leafy trees upon the high hills.
3 O
My mountain in the sadeh, I will give over thy wealth and all thy
otzerot (treasures) as plunder, and thy high places for sin, throughout
all thy territories.
4 And
thou, even thyself, shalt let go of thine nachalah that I gave thee;
and I will cause thee to serve thine oyevim in ha’aretz which thou
knowest not; for ye have kindled an eish in Mine anger, which shall burn
ad-olam (forever).
5 Thus
saith Hashem: Arur (cursed) be the gever that trusteth in adam, and
maketh basar his zero’a, and whose lev turneth away from Hashem.
6 For
he shall be like the shrub in the aravah (desert), and shall not see
when tov cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the midbar, in
an eretz melechah (salt land) and not inhabited.
7 Baruch hagever asher yivtach baHashem (Blessed is the man that trusteth in Hashem), and whose mivtach (confidence) Hashem is.
8 For
he shall be as an etz planted by the mayim, and that spreadeth out her
shorashim (roots) by the brook, and shall not fear when chom (heat)
cometh, but its leaf shall be green; and shall not be anxious in the
shenat batzoret (year of drought), neither shall cease from yielding
p’ri (fruit).
9 The lev (heart, mind) akov (is deceitful) above all things, and anush (incurable [in wickedness]); who can know it?
10 I, Hashem, search the lev, I test the kelayot (kidneys, i.e., most inward parts), requiting to every ish according to his drakhim, and according to the p’ri of his deeds.
11 As
the partridge sitteth on eggs, and hatcheth them not; so he that
getteth osher (riches), and not by mishpat, shall leave them in the
midst of his days, and at his end shall be a naval (fool).
12 A glorious high kisse from the beginning is the place of Mikdasheinu (our Beis HaMikdash).
13 Hashem,
the Mikveh Yisroel, all that forsake Thee shall be put to shame, and
they that turn away from Me shall be written down in ha’aretz, because
they have forsaken Hashem, the Makor Mayim Chayyim (Fountain of Living
Waters).
14 Heal me, Hashem, and I shall be healed; hoshi’eini (save me), and I shall be saved; for Thou art my tehillah (praise).
15 Hinei, they say unto me, Where is the Devar Hashem? Let it come now.
16 As
for me, I have not hastened away from being a ro’eh (shepherd) to
follow Thee; neither did I lust for the woeful day; Thou knowest; that
which came out of my lips was before Thee.
17 Be not a mechittah (terror) unto me; Thou art my refuge in the Yom Ra’ah (Day of Evil, Day of Disaster, Day of Doom).
18 Let
them be ashamed that persecute me, but let not me be put to shame; let
them be dismayed, but let not me be dismayed; bring upon them the Yom
Ra’ah, and destroy them with mishneh (double) destruction.
19 Thus
said Hashem unto me; Go and stand in the Sha’ar Bnei HaAm, whereby the
melachim of Yehudah come in, and by the which they go out, and in all
the Sha’arei Yerushalayim;
20 And
say unto them, Hear ye the Devar Hashem, ye melachim of Yehudah, and
all Yehudah, and all the inhabitants of Yerushalayim, that enter in by
these she’arim (gates);
21 Thus
saith Hashem: Be shomer over your nefashot, and bear no massa (burden)
on Shabbos, nor bring through the Sha’arei Yerushalayim;
22 Neither
carry forth a massa (burden) out of your batim (houses) on Shabbos,
neither do ye any melachah (work), but keep Shabbos set apart as kodesh,
just as I commanded Avoteichem.
23 But
they obeyed not, neither inclined their ozen (ear), but made their
stubborn neck stiff, that they might not hear, nor receive musar
(discipline).
24 And
it shall come to pass, if ye diligently pay heed unto Me, saith Hashem,
to bring in no massa (burden) through the she’arim (gates) of this city
on the day of Shabbos, but keep the day of Shabbos holy, to do no
melachah (work) therein;
25 Then
shall there enter into the she’arim (gates) of this city melachim and
sarim sitting upon the kisse Dovid, riding in chariots and on susim,
they, and their sarim, the Ish Yehudah, and the inhabitants of
Yerushalayim; and this city shall be inhabited l’olam (forever).
26 And
they shall come from the towns of Yehudah, and from the places around
Yerushalayim, and from Eretz Binyamin, and from the Shephalah
(Lowlands), and from the har (hill country), and from the Negev bringing
olah (burnt offering), and zevach (sacrifice), and minchah (grain
offering), and levonah (frankincense), and bringing todah (thank
offering), unto the Bais Hashem.
27 But
if ye will not pay heed unto Me to keep the day of Shabbos holy, and
not to bear a massa (burden), when entering in at the She’arim of
Yerushalayim on the day of Shabbos; then will I kindle an eish in the
she’arim thereof, and it shall devour the fortresses of Yerushalayim,
and it shall not be quenched.

Journey to see God: Genesis 1-2 “wonderfully made in God's image and likeness”
The
watchman continued his “journey to see God” in the Book
of Genesis, as led by the Holy Spirit, and he seeks the Lord
daily as in Psalm 24:6 (“This is Jacob, the generation of those who
seek Him, who seek Your face.”) While seeking the Lord, he beholds
the wonders that truly, “The earth is the Lord's, and all its
fullness, the world and those who dwell therein.” (Psalm 24:1)
The
more he sees the more he is filled with awesome admiration for the
Almighty God, Who has revealed Himself as the Creator and the
Provider for all who have breath on earth. One thing that stands
out in the revelation of these verses is that God is very
particular about every detail of His design and pattern. The pattern
for earth is in the word of God, the Bible. He required His creation
to follow exactly to His original design which He considers as
“GOOD”! After man sinned and had fallen short of God's glory, God
provided a second creation for all who believe in Jesus Christ and
His salvation on the cross, this time, through the supernatural born
again experience by exactly the same ingredients: the Holy Spirit and
the incorruptible seed of God -the word of God! We are specifically
told by Jesus that the new creation is born of God and is of the
image and likeness of God, Who is Spirit. (Joh 1:12-13, 3:5-6,
4:23-24; 1 Pet.1:23)
This
is the most important truth for all who seek God.
(The
watchman's notes are in brackets after the following respective
verses as he read them.)
THE MAKE OF MANKIND: ACCORDING TO THE IMAGE AND LIKENESS OF GOD
Genesis 1:26-30
26 Then God said, “Let us make humankind in our image, in the likeness of ourselves; and let them rule over the fish in the sea, the birds in the air, the animals, and over all the earth, and over every crawling creature that crawls on the earth.” 27 So God created humankind in his own image; in the image of God he created him: male and female he created them.28 God blessed them: God said to them, “Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea, the birds in the air and every living creature that crawls on the earth.” 29 Then God said, “Here! Throughout the whole earth I am giving you as food every seed-bearing plant and every tree with seed-bearing fruit. 30 And to every wild animal, bird in the air and creature crawling on the earth, in which there is a living soul, I am giving as food every kind of green plant.” And that is how it was. 31 God saw everything that he had made, and indeed it was very good. So there was evening, and there was morning, a sixth day.
(In
the beginning, God already stated that He rules over all.
However, He made humankind in His image and likeness, so that they
could be given the power of attorney to rule over all the earth in
His name. As long as humankind
remain in God's image and likeness, they may carry out this kingly
responsibility.)
(Jesus has
similarly warned on this subject: in John 15:4-6 4 “Abide in
Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless
it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. 5
I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in
him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6 If
anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is
withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they
are burned.” )
(As
Jesus has declared, unless Christians are of the image and likeness
of Jesus Himself, they are of no use in the kingdom of God!)
GOD
DESIGNED AN IDEAL LIFE FOR MANKIND AND ALL LIVING CREATURES
Genesis 2 (CJB)
2 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, along with everything in them. 2 On the seventh day God was finished with his work which he had made, so he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. 3 God blessed the seventh day and separated it as holy; because on that day God rested from all his work which he had created, so that it itself could produce.
(God
showed how He designed an ideal life. He created a brand new
world and made sure everything was well and orderly and provided the
best for the inhabitants. He set out one day to mark the completion
and at the same time to provide refreshment for those who abide in
His rest. Only by drawing near to God and resting in the presence
of God can one be refreshed and made ready for the next phase of good
work. To God the day of rest is set apart for Him only. No one is
to pursue self interest on that day. God only asks for one day out of
seven days. But the carnal Christians complain that is too much!)
ONLY
GOD CAN PROVIDE THE BEST ENVIRONMENT AND RESOURCES FOR AN IDEAL LIFE
ON EARTH
(A: iv, S: ii) 4 Here is the history of the heavens and the earth when they were created. On the day when Adonai, God, made earth and heaven, 5 there was as yet no wild bush on the earth, and no wild plant had as yet sprung up; for Adonai, God, had not caused it to rain on the earth, and there was no one to cultivate the ground. 6 Rather, a mist went up from the earth which watered the entire surface of the ground.
(Even
the growth of wild plants require the rain input from God.
When God stops rain no plants can grow. Just look at the
horrors of prolonged drought around the world today and we
know how true this is! Man can never create water out of nothing.)
MEN
AND TREES WERE MADE FROM THE SAME MATERIALS: DUST
7 Then Adonai, God, formed a person from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, so that he became a living being. 8 Adonai, God, planted a garden toward the east, in ‘Eden, and there he put the person whom he had formed. 9 Out of the ground Adonai, God, caused to grow every tree pleasing in appearance and good for food, including the tree of life in the middle of the garden and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
(God
created man and trees out of the earth/ground. Yet He treated the man
as special. He gave man His breath to make him alive. He even took
care to make sure the trees are pleasing to look at and good for food
so the man would be attracted to eat them and survive on earth!)
WATERS
FROM HEAVEN AND WATERS FROM EARTH
10 A river went out of ‘Eden to water the garden, and from there it divided into four streams. 11 The name of the first is Pishon; it winds throughout the land of Havilah, where there is gold. 12 The gold of that land is good; aromatic resin and onyx stone are also found there. 13 The name of the second river is Gichon; it winds throughout the land of Kush. 14 The name of the third river is Tigris; it is the one that flows toward the east of Ashur. The fourth river is the Euphrates.
(God
cares for the earth He created. He provides rivers of
waters for the earth. The physical rivers store waters for the
earth. Rivers on earth can run dry. There are spiritual storehouses
for waters in heavens. When the windows of heaven are opened, the
rain pours down, as in the case of the great flood at Noah's time.
Rain from heaven evidences God's blessings. Duet.28:12a (CEB) “The
Lord will open up for you his own well-stocked
storehouse, the heavens, providing your land with rain at just the
right time and blessing all your work.” )
(Note
the provision of “rivers
of living water for the hearts” of those who believe in Jesus, John
7:38.
Like the earth, man's body needs physical water to survive. However,
there is now another “water” which man's total survival must
have, the Spirit of the Lord. The Holy Spirit in the believers flows,
nourishes and strengthens the inner man. Praying in the Spirit is an
important way to tap into this mighty river within us.)

And I appointed Hanan son of Zaccur and grandson of Mattaniah as their assistant. These men had an excellent reputation, and it was their job to make honest distributions to their fellow Levites.
