Today’s Proverbs: Who has anguish? Who has sorrow?

Proverbs 23

New Living Translation (NLT)
23 While dining with a ruler,
pay attention to what is put before you.
If you are a big eater,
put a knife to your throat;
don’t desire all the delicacies,
for he might be trying to trick you.
Don’t wear yourself out trying to get rich.
Be wise enough to know when to quit.
In the blink of an eye wealth disappears,
for it will sprout wings
and fly away like an eagle.
Don’t eat with people who are stingy;
don’t desire their delicacies.
They are always thinking about how much it costs.[a]
“Eat and drink,” they say, but they don’t mean it.
You will throw up what little you’ve eaten,
and your compliments will be wasted.
Don’t waste your breath on fools,
for they will despise the wisest advice.
10 Don’t cheat your neighbor by moving the ancient boundary markers;
don’t take the land of defenseless orphans.
11 For their Redeemer[b] is strong;
he himself will bring their charges against you.
12 Commit yourself to instruction;
listen carefully to words of knowledge.
13 Don’t fail to discipline your children.
They won’t die if you spank them.
14 Physical discipline
may well save them from death.[c]
15 My child,[d] if your heart is wise,
my own heart will rejoice!
16 Everything in me will celebrate
when you speak what is right.
17 Don’t envy sinners,
but always continue to fear the Lord.
18 You will be rewarded for this;
your hope will not be disappointed.
19 My child, listen and be wise:
Keep your heart on the right course.
20 Do not carouse with drunkards
or feast with gluttons,
21 for they are on their way to poverty,
and too much sleep clothes them in rags.
22 Listen to your father, who gave you life,
and don’t despise your mother when she is old.
23 Get the truth and never sell it;
also get wisdom, discipline, and good judgment.
24 The father of godly children has cause for joy.
What a pleasure to have children who are wise.[e]
25 So give your father and mother joy!
May she who gave you birth be happy.
26 O my son, give me your heart.
May your eyes take delight in following my ways.
27 A prostitute is a dangerous trap;
a promiscuous woman is as dangerous as falling into a narrow well.
28 She hides and waits like a robber,
eager to make more men unfaithful.
29 Who has anguish? Who has sorrow?
    Who is always fighting? Who is always complaining?
    Who has unnecessary bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes?
30 It is the one who spends long hours in the taverns,
    trying out new drinks.
31 Don’t gaze at the wine, seeing how red it is,
how it sparkles in the cup, how smoothly it goes down.
32 For in the end it bites like a poisonous snake;
    it stings like a viper.
33 You will see hallucinations,
    and you will say crazy things.
34 You will stagger like a sailor tossed at sea,
clinging to a swaying mast.
35 And you will say, “They hit me, but I didn’t feel it.
I didn’t even know it when they beat me up.
When will I wake up
so I can look for another drink?”

Revised October 2012: Today’s Verses for Watchman

How to know God intimately? How to hear God?

Watchman’s October 2012 notes: (practical steps)

This has been one of the most frequented posts for the last 2 years. Many actually yearn for intimate relationship with God, our Creator, our Father in heaven. In this world of constant change, increasing isolation and separation from God, due to man’s increasing coldness and hardening of hearts, lawlessness, self-seeking, presumptions, covetousness (which is idolatry) and passion for the wisdom of the world (which according to James 3:15 is earthly, sensual and demonic.), many are crying out to the Almighty God who hears and answers.

How to re-build or start an intimate relationship with a God whom you do not even know?
The watchman has learned this (from experience and encounter with the Father in heaven since 1983, the year when he was born again by the Holy Spirit):
  1. start today.
  2. be still before Him.
  3. believe He exists.
  4. believe He wants to reward you, when you seek Him diligently.
  5. believe that He is pleased with your faith (in Him and His Son Jesus)
  6. believe in all His word, in the Bible.
  7. read the Bible.
  8. pray.
  9. spend more and more time with God.
  10. let go of more and more of the things of the world. When your hands are full of them you have no hands to receive anything from the Father in heaven!
  11. do not love this world, nor the things it offers you. (1 John 2:15)
Practical steps:
  1. keep your mind and body in stillness before the Lord.
  2. be open to the Holy Spirit. Do not let your feeling or mind interfere.
  3. take a note book.
  4. write down your question and listen for answer.
  5. the voice of the Lord will come in the still small voice in your inner part.
  6. write down His answer. (He may answer you in the inner voice or in His written words)
  7. discern whether the answer is from your own mind (e.g. thoughts/obsessions you have been thinking regularly lately prior to the session) or emotion or the enemy (evil spirits: e.g. destructive thoughts)
  8. discard those not from the Holy Spirit.
Hebrews 11:6 Amplified Bible (AMP)
But without faith it is impossible to please and be satisfactory to Him. For whoever would come near to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He is the rewarder of those who earnestly and diligently seek Him [out].

Proverbs 3:5-8 (NKJV)
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct[a] your paths.
7 Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the LORD and depart from evil.
8 It will be health to your flesh,[b]
And strength[c] to your bones.

Proverbs 3:5-8 (New Living Translation)
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.
6 Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which path to take.
7 Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom.
Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil.
8 Then you will have healing for your body
and strength for your bones.

Proverbs 3:5-8 (Amplified Bible)
